This thesis document was issued under the authority of another institution, not NPS. During the course of the study at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the gas turbine field, one of the major limitations of gas turbine application was discussed very frequently. That limitation was the fact that the gas turbine has a very limited range of operation due to the very small margin between the gross work of the turbine and the gross work of the compressor. This margin, or net work, increases as turbine inlet temperatures increase, but the maximum temperatures at the turbine inlet are limited by available materials. 2012-03-14T17:52:21Z 2012-03-14T17:52:21Z 1947-06 Thesis http://hdl.handle.net/10945/6393 en_US Approved for public release, distribution unlimited Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
