Therefore there will be a speed (or speeds) at which resonance will occur due to the frequency of the periodic force of the unbalanced rotor coinciding with the natural frequencies of the system concerned, such speeds are termed resonant or critical speeds. The mountings of most machines are flexible In some measure. Even If the Immediate foundation be considered absolutely rigid either the building or the ground upon which It rests may possess flexibility.
