Summary:Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited === There is a growing need for systems to inter-operate in order to facilitate information sharing and to achieve objectives through joint task executions. The differences in data representation between the systems greatly complicate the task of achieving interoperability between them. Young's Object Oriented Method for Interoperability (OOMI) defines an architecture and suite of tools to resolve representational differences between systems. The OOMI architecture and tool suite will reduce the labor-intensity and complexity of the integration of disparate systems into a cooperative system of systems (federation of systems) and their subsequent deployment. At the heart of this architecture is the definition of translations between any two different classes of objects and a run-time component (the Translator) that will execute such translations. This thesis describes a prototype framework that implements the OOMI, a prototype class translation code generator that assists an Interoperability Engineer in the definition of the translations and a prototype Translator that executes these translations.
