According to key variables of an organization, centralized and decentralized structures produce different communication patterns and different outputs as well. In a combat environment these different patterns will result in distinct results in terms of effectiveness and efficiency. This environment can be modeled by the help of software like Arena. As a part of the Global War on Terrorism NATO forces are conducting operations in Afghanistan. To enhance stability in Afghanistan, NATO established PRTs (Provincial Reconstruction Teams) composed of multinational elements (partly civilian, but mostly military. These teams are static, and form potential targets for terrorist attacks.
