Summary: | Approved for public release; distribution unlimited. === A new design for non-self integrating magnetic-loop sensors (B-dots) has been developed at Los Alamos National Laboratory. Experiments and tests were performed using the Relativistic Electron Beam Experiment (REX) machine to compare the B-dot sensors to optical beam diagnostics (streak camera). the B- dots were assessed to have the capability of measuring the REX electron beam's position to within 0.25mm with 2 percent error, and its transverse oscillatory movement to within 0.5mm amplitude with 7 percent error, over a 1 GHz bandwidth. Many calibration parameters and factors affecting sensor signals were examined during the experiment. The experimental calibration of the B-dots, and the resulting certified accuracy of their remote, non-intrusive measurements of relativistic electron beam parameters should have a wide range of application to many other electron beam machines.
