Summary:This study examines the possibility of applying Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology to monitoring small vessels. The study focuses on the technology's applicability to maritime security, resource management, and the public. The costs and benefits of using RFID on waterways are analyzed, with special attention given to privacy and public acceptance. The thesis then discusses a completed proof of concept study and concludes with preliminary guidelines for creating an RFID-driven small vessel monitoring program.
