Summary:A computer program was developed to solve the quasi-one- dimensional, unsteady flow problem associated with starting phenomena in various nozzle-short diffuser combinations of interest to gas dynamic lasers. The program was based on the techniques developed by George Rudinger in his book, Wave Diagrams for Nonsteady Flow in Ducts. The techniques were modi- fied to facilitate a fixed grid for computational ease. The program was used to analyze the starting transients of a Mach 3 nozzle with a semi-wedge diffuser. Results indi- cated that for a given inlet/exhaust pressure ratio, diffuser starts could be obtained at higher ramp angles for thin dif- fusers than for thick diffusers.
