Summary:This thesis document was issued under the authority of another institution, not NPS. At the time it was written, a copy was added to the NPS Library collection for reasons not now known. Not believed to be a CIVINS (Civilian Institutions) title. === Of primary importance in a study of this nature is the establishment of the various limitations within which analysis of the middle management spectrum is measurable. The scope of this study, to achieve a meaningful focus, must necessarily exclude analysis of specific computer technology and systems programming. Under consideration is the "why" of the subject, not the "how," which is presently a well-established discipline. Also, notice is invited to the accent on business versus governmental middle management, as it is felt that initial movement into areas of change will occur in the former sector. the final constraint, not included within the specific subject areas, concerns the concept of computerized process control. This is primarily an effect upon lower operating echelons and is not the issue under consideration. It is felt that the dynamic changes will occur in the management information systems of the middle management level. This is because of their planning and decision-making functions concerned with applying new computer capabilities to the lower echelons to the extent to which their activities involving processes and operations can be programmed.
