Summary:There is a specific rationale for the following biographical details and for the sometimes very personal observations in this preface. The subject matter of this research report is inextricably intertwined with the biographical details provided hereunder, because the author’s argument about culture are inextricably intertwined with his experience. This will become clear in later chapters. For the present, I wish the reader to see the preface, not as ornamental prefix to the ‘real’ academic work which follows, but as organic part of the research. Like Oedipus, the author embarks on this research not only to discover, but also to find his identity at the centre of that discovery.
