The study aims to explore whether the current treatment of refugees in South Africa is in accordance with existing international norms and standards for the protection of refugees. The study focuses on the realisation of the above-mentioned socio-economic rights in order to measure the treatment. The study also seeks to address the obstacles which prevent the full and proper treatment of refugees, and to make recommendations as to how South Africa can better regulate the treatment of refugees living in its territory. In essence, the study aims to investigate whether there is an inconsistency between the rights of refugees acknowledged in international law, and in South African domestic law and the current situation of refugees in South Africa, and, if so, how this can be remedied 2014-11-14T13:03:07Z 2014-11-14T13:03:07Z 2014 Thesis http://hdl.handle.net/11394/3853 en University of the Western Cape University of the Western Cape
