It attempts to identify the problems experienced by the general class teacher in the Foundation and Intermediate phases who are involved with the implementation of this learning area. It does so by exploring the history of music education in the Cape from 1652 to the present and reflects on some of the philosophies involved in music education from Western and African points of view.
