Summary: | Includes abstract. === Includes bibliographical references (leaves 59-65). === Stomach contents of sardine (Sardinops sagax), anchovy (Engraulis encrasicolus), west coast redeye (Etrameus whiteheadi) and east coast redeye (E. teres) were collected from presumed mixed shoals off South Africa's east coast. The stomach contents were analysed to 1) determine the diet composition of each species in terms of dietary carbon, 2) assess whether resource partitioning by prey type and/or prey size occurs amont the four species, 3) compare results with what is known about the diet of these species on the west and south coasts of South Africa and 4) characterize diet of east coast redeye. |
