The aims of this study were to determine and explore the nature and extent of the barriers confronting the disabled with permanent locomotor disabilities; improve their quality of life as well as that of their caregivers by providing them with wheelchairs, mobility aids, assistive devices and concrete ramps and pathways; and propose a model Integrated Intervention Programme that could be used in similar disadvantaged communities throughout South Africa.
