Induction motors and motorised loads consume an estimated 60% of the total energy required in the South African industry. This figure stands at 40% worldwide. Energy Efficient induction motors have proven to be an effective solution in the quest to reduce energy consumption. In South Africa, there have been efforts to replace the standard motors already in operation with energy efficient motors. The South African Utility, ESKOM, through its energy efficiency motor programme, has been providing incentives to its industrial customers to speed up this process.
