This dissertation presents the research and the findings gathered in the investigation of the role of information systems in the performance of the registration system at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), Ga-Rankuwa campus. The objectives of this study were to analyse the existing support services, to investigate the problems experienced by students (in receiving these services) during the registration periods and to identify factors affecting the registration system during the registration periods. An information system consists of people, technology and organisation. These elements work together in order to produce an efficient and effective registration system. The information system has to have a high performance in order for the registration department to abide by their mission. A case study approach was used and the campus of choice was Ga-Rankuwa campus. The study listed a number of findings including lack of excellent student service provision, lack of staff commitment and lack of information provision. The study showed that students were not satisfied with the performance of the registration process. Factors affecting the performance of the registration process include student financial problems, and student exclusion. The study concludes with recommendations, including multiple registration methods to reduce the long queues and a student feedback system, which can help management to measure customer satisfaction and the performance of the registration system. 2008 Text PDF en © Tshwane University of Technology http://encore.tut.ac.za/iii/cpro/DigitalItemViewPage.external?sp=1000962
