A music programme relevant to the needs of learners can create better understanding between these groups. The success of such a programme depends on an effective teaching-learning approach. The action learning approach, developed by Reginald Revans and adapted for music by Thomas A. Regelski, was implemented in a once-off rap programme at an inner city school in Gauteng. The aim of the programme was the acquisition of practical musical skills by learners through participation in a real-life musical event.
