This treatise shows an array of interpretive possibilities for classical guitarists interested in performing the solo lute works of the renaissance lutenist and composer John Dowland. The treatise emphasizes three points: first, the process by which guitarists become aware of the elements of interpretation in John Dowland's solo lute music; second, the conscious clarification of interpretive goals and objectives on the part of the guitarist; and third, the methods and techniques used to achieve each goal. Each element of interpretation is applied to an original transcription of "Queen Elizabeth's Galliard P. 41," "Lachrimae Pavan P. 15," "Farewell Fantasy P. 3," and "Forlorn Hope Fancy P. 2."
