PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: The study was designed to determine the effect of short-term group counseling with parents on the academic achievement, school behavior and self-concepts of their underachieving sixth grade students. PROCEDURE: The study required data in three areas: (1) academic achievement, obtained by teacher assigned marks, (2) school behavior, measured by the Rating Scale for Pupil Adjustment, and (3) self-concept, measured by the Q-sort designed for the study. Data were gathered as follows: (1) prior to the group counseling, (2) at the completion of counseling, and (3) at the completion of school.
