Description
Summary:The thesis establishes general methods of solution for the stress and displacement in a wedge with distributed flank loadings or force or couple nuclei acting at any point. Full use has been made of the compactness of two-dimensional elasticity theory as expressed in terms of complex potentials and the stress combinations (H) and phi. Complete theory of the Mellin transform in its application to the determination of stresses and displacements in two-dimensional elasticity, is provided. This is adapted for use in close connection with the theory mentioned above. The main part of the thesis deals with the application of the Mellin transform method to problems of a wedge under the action of various force and couple nuolei, with stress free or rigid boundaries. Solutions are also given for certain problems involving body forces.
