Analysis of organic compounds by chromatography-mass spectrometry, GC-IR and SFE
The introductory chapter describes the basics of chromatography and quadrupole mass spectrometry, together with an introduction to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls and growth hormones which are the analytes used in later chapters. Chapter two gives an account of packed sup...

Chapter two gives an account of packed supercritical chromatography and thermospray interfaces for coupling SFC with mass spectrometry. The separations developed for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and growth hormones are discussed. Limits of detection for ultraviolet-detection for both sets of compounds are determined. In chapters three and four, the extraction by SFE and quantitation by GC/MS of growth hormones in meat is described. Details are given of method development and problems with quantitation. Chapter five is a comparison of GC/MS and GC/FTIR for the identification of isomeric PAHs and PCBs. In addition to the separations, identification of photochemical degradation products and the use of combined library are discussed. The instrumentation used is described in chapter six.543.5Swansea University http://ethos.bl.uk/OrderDetails.do?uin=uk.bl.ethos.637268Electronic Thesis or Dissertation |
