Summary: | Engineering changes are common in manufacturing industries. Engineering changes can be found from the conception of the project until its culmination. In general, engineering changes are difficult to quantify. Engineering changes vary from design changes up to production changes. The management of these changes normally ends up in variation orders and is time consuming. In the Marine Industry, they are widely recognised, but hardly researched and quantified. The approach to develop a new tool is necessary to understand not only the management of engineering changes, but also the impact quantification on the project overall. The research to develop a new tool consists on developing case studies to implement a powerful methodology in live projects. The integration of different techniques from other industries that widely recognise the management of engineering changes makes an opportunity to quantify engineering changes through this methodology. The new methodology includes coverage, impact representation, decision making process, lean improvement and analysis from the experts. The impact representation and the integration of tracking mechanisms are a key tool for researchers and practitioners to make decision in marine projects.
