Summary: | An Aluminium Meta/ Spray (AMS) coating system, in combination with an epoxy/poiyurethane based organic paint system, is currently recommended for service by the UK Highways Agency to provide durable long-lasting corrosion protection for highway structural steelwork e.g. steel bridges. However, premature failure of the coating system in the form of localised blistering of the organic paint system has been observed in service within 5-7 years, compared with the anticipated service life of 15-20 years to first maintenance. This work is aimed to evaluate the performance of the coatinq system and to develop understanding of the corrosion and failure mechanisms involved with the system. |
