| Summary: | Previous studies is of the game larder have tended to focus on both a specific type of game and its impact upon the landscape, or, it has involved identifying and describing those buildings associated with the management of a particular aspect of the game larder. Inevitably, this has tended to compartmentalise the subject area which has led to little or no overview of the game larder within any given time period. These approaches have led to a topic being considered in isolation with little or no attempt to place the subject In an economic, social, religious or political context. The aim of this dissertation is to give a wide overview of the game larder in Somerset and Gloucestershire set within the social, political, religious and economic context of the period, 1660-1837.
