Emerging Chinese high-tech companies : influences, strategic patterns and performance

This study examines environment-strategy coalignment and the performance implications in Chinese hi-tech industry. It identifies the critical influential factors impacting on Chinese hi-tech companies' strategy formulation and implementation, and the corporate strategies which are most widely applied by Chinese hi-tech firms. A conceptual framework is developed to explain how these influential factors impact on firms' strategy choice and execution, how to choose suitable strategies in different situations, and how these strategies work effectively. The findings of this study suggest that government support as an independent driving force and technology culture as an internal environmental factor together significantly affect the formulation and implementation of strategy by these firms. This internal influential factor is added to the framework, making the analysis more precise and comprehensive.
