Summary: | Congenital cardiovascular malformation occurs in approximately 7 in every 1000 live births. The aetiology of these malformations has been attributed to both genetic and environmental causes. Tetralogy of Fallot is the most common form of cyanotic cardiovascular malformation that occurs in approximately 421 per million live births and represents 6% of all cases of cardiovascular malformation. Tetralogy of Fallot is considered a malformation of the outflow region of the heart and has in particular been demonstrated to have a significant genetic component. |
