As a result of this tradition, landscape architects first emerging in eariy twentieth century China concerned themselves especially with the design of gardens and parks. This situation remained almost unchanged during the radical socialist revolution, which resulted in the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949 that was led by Chairman Mao Zedong (1893-1976).
