An examination of these three features of convergence in the relationship between Indonesia' ~~d the United States is undertaken in the wider ii. context of the principles of Indonesia's "independent and active" foreign policy as interpreted and practised by the Suharto Administration. The relationship between the two states was not without its tensions, but it was distinguished nonetheless by a sense of common purpose in security matters.
