Today, thermal array, galvanometer, electrostatic, and lightbeam recorders co-exist for reasons both historical and practical. At one time or another each has held a competitive advantage but now it is time to synthesize a new recorder standard combining the strengths of each of today’s technologies with a generous reserve for future enhancements.
