INTERSECTION is an original collection of short stories exploring the themes of isolation, tragedy, love, and communion in the modern world of the city. In the first story, young Drew discovers the tragedy, fragility, and imperfection of adult life. In the second, Lola must decide whether she is ready to move past the death of her husband and find love in an old friend. In the third, homeless woman and retired lion tamer Marcie finds a solution to her poverty only to question this new means when she is faced with a truly strong, independent woman. In the fourth, Fig, a minor character from Drew's story and the unnamed woman in Marcie's story, takes center stage. Fig struggles to let go of past heartache and loss as she faces the dangers of living and working alone in the city. In the final story, Lola's lover Juan returns. Juan must find the courage and the words to share a traumatic event that has shaped his entire life. All stories overlap in characters, time, or scene. And, in one way or another, each story turns on the same traffic accident involving the death of a little girl. 2013 text Electronic Thesis http://hdl.handle.net/10150/297537 en Copyright © is held by the author.
