Description
Summary:Four experiments were conducted to evaluate some of the effects of mechanical evaporation barriers on fish growth and pond productivity. Barrier coverages above 5O7 reduced fish growth, fish survival, aquatic insect yields, gross photosynthesis, dissolved oxygen concentrations, temperatures, and habitat areas. These reductions appeared to correlate with decreased amounts of light entering each pond. Zooplankton numbers, phytoplankton chlorophyll concentrations, pH, and turbidity measurements were not significantly affected at any coverage level.
