Since the first complete publication of the work by Pedro Jose Pidal in 1840, scholarship related to the poem and other closely associated literary works has developed significantly. The ensuing study undertakes a review of the trajectory of Libro de Apolonio studies, focusing specifically on matters which address the language and versification of the poem as it was originally composed. Previous editions are closely analyzed with the intention of revealing stylistic and linguistic features of the poem whose careful examination will serve to advance the critical reconstruction of the poem's original language.
