In the high school he suddenly drops arithmetic except as he maintains practices in courses of science or high school mathematics and except as the transactions of every day life involve arithmetic. In college the individual may suddenly find that the amount of arithmetical knowledge required is not small as in physics, chemistry or certain commercial courses.
