The need to document is central to the health care organizations and the counties have come a long way in the introduction of electronic patient record systems (EPR). The aim of the EPR systems is to support the care processes and the clinical professions in their work. This is a master thesis in the area of human-computer interaction (HCI), Department of Information Technology at Uppsala University. The aim of the thesis was to describe and compare the five most common EPR systems in Sweden. The comparison will focus on some usability aspects and on how well they support the users in their clinical practice. There is a public interest in critically examining and compare the EPR systems from a user perspective but no high-quality comparison has been made, before this study. To fulfill the purpose, interviews with EPR providers and users of the different systems have been made to investigate how well the systems meet the requirements of usability. The results of the study are as follows: To meet usability requirements, the system developers work with end-users when they develop new functionality within the system. All developers have people with usability expertise and people with IT background who work with the system development. According to the end-users, a good overview is a factor that they demand, and which suppliers have to work with in the development of future versions.
