Description
Summary:The goal of this master thesis is to analyze different methods for checkpointing with rollback recovery and evaluate how these would perform in a distributed heterogeneous automotive system. The conclusions from this study lead to a design of a checkpointing system for the Selfconfigurable HighAvailability and Policy based platform for Embedded system (SHAPE) middleware together with an API to use this new functionality. This design has been implemented in SHAPE to prove that it works. The conclusion is that this design should be enough for most applications in SHAPE although it requires some extra work by the application programmer. This report also covers some aspects of policy based computing and presents adesign which aims to simplify the usage of policies. This results in a system with a policy manager and a context manager which is implemented in SHAPE.This implementation was shown to greatly improve the usability of policies andcontexts without removing any functionalities.
