This is a negative trend when children and young people have a lot to gain from having a broad physical bank. Physical literacy aims to describe how conditions can contribute to a lifelong sporting interest; motivation and self-esteem are two of the six components that are part of physical literacy. The purpose of this study was to investigate how sport coaches create conditions in order for children and young people to develop a movement competence now and in the future. In order to delineate the study, we have chosen to investigate how coaches create the conditions for promoting motivation and self-esteem among athletic children and adolescents. The study is a qualitative study, an interview guide was designed based on two components within the concept of Physical literacy, and these were motivation and self-esteem. The result shows that these components are used by all coaches, but to a different extent, respondents argue that motivation is an important component for being physically active and for maintaining a lifelong interest in sport. Although self-esteem was perceived as a complex concept, it was found that respondents work to promote the self-esteem of children and adolescents. It is clear that coaches today have an awareness of the importance of a broad physical repertoire, and what its effects may have for the life and longevity of children and youth in sports and physical activity.
