This has led to an increasing interest in thearea called Internet of Things (IoT), representing the idea of using this data to producesmart products and services. The complexity of IoT requires organizations to collaborate innovel ways, combining resources and knowledge to cocreate value in an IoT-ecosystem.Previous research on cocreation and business ecosystems shows that these collaborationsare complex and needs to be managed in order to be successful. In this study we seek tofurther develop existing theory on cocreation of value in the context of IoT. It focuses onhow the composition of actors affects the cocreation process in an IoT-ecosystem. We dothis by conducting a qualitative case study examining the various views and experiencesfrom actors in an on-going IoT project. Our results show that the process is affected by theinvolved actors based on various factors. These were individual perspectives on goals, visions and value, as well as conditions related to previous relationships and coordinationneeds. We conclude that cocreation of value in the context of IoT confirms much of theprevious theory regarding this area. However, this context is also unique in some ways, mainly because of the dictating complexity surrounding it. Our study highlights the need toproperly address and handle the various perspectives on the concept IoT, and also theperception of value as mainly non-monetary due to the unexplored nature of IoT.
