Reports concerning the effect on the staff’s psychological health are disturbing. These workforces are those most affected by brutality and for ages it has been looked upon as a part of the psychiatric line of work. This viciousness is threatening the safety for both the personnel and the patients. It is the employer’s responsibility to make sure that violence or threats are prevented with every means possible. Aim: To illustrate the experiences of violence within the psychiatric wards, from the employees’ point of view. Method: A literary study was performed with systematic collection of studies concerning the matter. These studies were then reviewed by quality and reviewed to identify categories and sub-categories. Result: It was discovered that strong experiences of exposure is linked to the care of violent patients and the work was described as a world of insanity and madness. Many nurses feel that their work is psychologically taxing and the brutality they face affect the care and attitude towards the patient in a negative way. This leads to the fact that physical restraint may become a legitimate way to hurt the patient. It was found that work relations such as the physical work environment, the possibility for debriefing and the chance to influence shapes the impact of violence. Many caregivers demands training in managing violence. Discussion: The authors of this study claim that a development of training for the personnel on how to manage the violence is of great importance. The necessity to evaluate what has happened is pointed out and also the fact that good communication between the employees would help in stopping the violence.
