This paper centers on the recent discussions around immigration and integration in Sweden and Europe as a whole. This paper looks at the increasing segregation in Swedish suburbs and aims to explore the reasons for this. The paper will look at economic, societal and cultural reasons for this segregation. In addition it will also explore the politics of integration on a local and national level. The local level studies four city areas that features the highest percentage of inhabitants with a foreign background in Västerås. The main focus of this paper is the housing situation that more or less “cause” segregation.
