Diversity appears in different parts of the social debate and mainly concerns people and their traits. The notion can be defined and used within several contexts, such as urban planning. Diversity can associate to people as well as the build environment in the urban and regional planning practice. To take a closer look at the general meaning of diversity within urban planning and a specific case in Nacka, have I searched literature, studied it closer and also done an interview. The information I’ve obtained is divided into three elementary classes for the execution of the planning practice; The Notion, The Planer and The Process. Through dividing the information into these classes I hope to make the material more legible and clearer give a picture of how diversity can be implemented within urban planning. The diversity notion in urban planning contains several aspects and approaches. Plenty of the aspects regarded in the literature take part in planning for diversity in the municipal of Nacka. Diversity is considered as a diffuse notion and working with it provides possibilities and challenges for the planner. In this paper I also illustrate diversity at the workplace and how the planning process can be changed to benefit diversity in a larger extent. The finish of this paper shows some areas where Nacka further can develop its diversity management in urban planning to become a role model for other municipals. Diversity is all about variation and differences. Through this paper I hope to give an idea how these differences can be planed for and the distinction between diversity and difference.
