This essay is written as a thesis project for my bachelors’ degree in the field of urban planning at Royal Institute of Technology. It discusses a small area called Boo situated in Nacka outside of Stockholm. This area is currently subjected to investigation by the local municipality due to the fact that it consists of a large part of small summerhouses, which are not plugged in to the communal water supply. This threatens the quality of the ground water. While questions about the future of this area have arisen, planners and politicians take much precaution because of the delicate cultural heritage that has been proclaimed there. Due to these circumstances this thesis is of importance to survey what kind of values is present and to what extent these values could go lost if not handled properly. To tackle this subject, several theories on cultural heritage are discussed which includes both older and more modern views. The method for which the study is performed is mainly from a method called DIVE. DIVE is developed by Riksantikvarieämbetet with purpose of applying to progressing areas with cultural heritage. The essay presents the current view of the area and the values which to this date has been decided, but then attempts to develop a more detailed picture of the area. It finally discusses vulnerability and possibilities of the area. Is it possible these values could go lost or rather; is it possible they might be enhanced in some way?
