Summary:ABSTRACT   This master thesis in Political Science is written by Ingrid Karlsson in spring 08. Adviser: P O Norell. “The fusion between the department’s of real estate and technician, a study about the effects of a fusion from an cultural perspective.”     Culture is an important concept and it is used to for example understand fusions between organisations. My study is an example of one of these studies.    The purpose of this thesis is to examine if consideration was taken to the different cultures inside both departments when they realized the fusion and if there has been any problems after that can be deduced to the different cultures. I have five different research questions on this topic: 1) What characterized the earlier departments culture before the fusion, 2) Did they take the different cultures in to considerations when the fusion was realized. 3)Have any problems occurred that can be connected to the culture perspective 4) Have the managements view of what should be the departments culture reached the rest of the employees. 5) What kind of organizational change could explain the fusion between these to departments. The research method I have chosen for this thesis is case studies and to my help to collect data I have interviewed eight people that have worked in the old departments and is working in the department of real estate and technician. My reasons for using this method is that it gave me the opportunity to come close to the people I interviewed.   My conclusions on the question what characterized the department of real estate/ technician is that the department of real estate was characterized by professionalism. The department of technician was characterized by performance. The conclusion on the second question is divided, some of the interviewers sad no and others sad yes. The conclusion on the third question is that it has occurred some problems after the fusion. One of the problems was the difference in routines. The fourth questions conclusion is that it hasn’t, some of the people I interviewed sad that it is hard because the department is very big. The conclusion on the fifth and last question is that the sort of the organizational change is a radical change.
