For companies that are dealing with high complexity and high information management requirements, effective documentation processes are necessary. Unfortunately, such processes are not always maintained and ends up being neglected, which affects the effectiveness of information sharing and the possibility of process development within the business. This has turned out to often be timeconsuming to resolve. The purpose of the study is to present how companies can go create closer links between production and documentation processes and how this can benefit them. Method: The study is based on a case company that experiences this problem. The information for the study has been obtained through semi-structured interviews with employees in both production and leadership positions. In addition, benchmarking with other companies in similar industries has also been carried out and a literature study has been conducted. Result: The problem with inefficient documentation processes is often found in the absence of structure and obsolete documentation systems. The study shows that companies with digitalized and integrated documentation systems do not experience the same problem as the case company. There are unfortunately many obstacles that can slow down the restructuring and change of documentation systems. Conclusion: The study shows that effective documentation systems can lead to greater opportunities for increased cross-functionalism in the organization, greater opportunity for information sharing, better learning opportunities for employees and good conditions for business development. The study results in a five-step systematic approach for how companies can go about creating good organizational conditions for implementing new, or correcting existing documentation systems and processes. Keywords: documentation, process documentation, industrial processes change management, standardization, process and information flows, information system development, knowledge management, complexity, organizational change.
