Description
Summary:The authors' project consisted of looking at Saab's current optical solution and present a conceptual design for a more compact, integrated optical solution. The project started with the authors learning, through reading scientific articles on various databases, about the optical signal, optical transceiver, and optical connectors to fully understand the problem definition. Then a thorough military market search was conducted, and compliant products were collected and presented for Saab. The VCSEL transceiver the authors found on the market was considered to be the most interesting solution for further research and the authors proceeded to produce a conceptual design of a VCSEL transceiver and its subsequential connector. These conceptual designs were 3D prototyped using the Computer-aided design (CAD) software Inventor to help visualize how the authors would perceive the design to be integrated with Saab’s products.
