Summary: | In this paper, I will study job-ads published in the newspaper Hallandsposten within the period 1915-1970. I will investigate whether job-ads can give information about changes in society from a gender perspective that can be useful when teaching history. To accomplish this I will conduct my study with gender-theory and through qualitative text analysis. The analysis was categorized into four themes: requested gender, age and corporeality, family relationships and ability or character. The results showed that changes in society are evident in job-ads within all categories. Most prominent was the changes in terms of how job-ads for women has been constructed throughout the period. In terms of the usefulness of teaching I came to the conclusion that job-ads are not the ideal teaching material compared to regular articles in the newspaper. However, with well-based questions job-ads can be efficient when teaching subjects such as: women’s history, labor history and other events that can be noted in job-ads.
