Electromagnetic radiation and scattering from microstrip antennas on anisotropic substrates

In this dissertation the problem of an infinite rectangular array of resonant misrostrip patches printed on various anisotropic substrates is studied using a spectral domain Green's function Galerkin approach. The two main goals are to analyze scattering from arrays on isotropic substrates and...

The two main goals are to analyze scattering from arrays on isotropic substrates and to find a substrate anisotropy that can be exploited to yield better antenna performance. Experiments are done to verify the analysis of scattering from arrays on isotropic substrates. For the anisotropic work, the goal is not to limit the cases studied to substrates that are readily available, but rather to lead the materials specialists by discovering if certain anisotropic materials are very useful or not very useful as antenna substrates. Most especially, the desired outcome is an array printed on an anisotropic substrate with no reduction in gain but with a reduction in radar cross section (RCS) as compared to the isotropic case. Various kinds of anisotropy are considered including biaxial dielectrics, biaxial magnetics, and ferrites. Radiation and scattering performance of arrays using the different materials is assessed. 1990-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://scholarworks.umass.edu/dissertations/AAI9022693 Doctoral Dissertations Available from Proquest ENG ScholarWorks@UMass Amherst Electrical engineering
