Description
Summary:This research study of a mixed-mode first year English literature course on argumentative prose essays analyzed learners' social practices and online discourse in order to identify ways in which learners engaged with one another and with texts. Discourse analysis provided a better understanding of the ways in which students negotiated conflicting identities, values, and ways of thinking through the act of composition. Findings identified aspects of the online environment that facilitated students' acquisition of academic discourse and ways in which participation in online discussion enabled students to become full participants in the academic community. === Education, Faculty of === Language and Literacy Education (LLED), Department of === Graduate
