Summary: | This thesis describes a topology independent parallel programming environment, along with the motivation for its inception and design. The system is currently being used on a 74 node reconfigurable transputer network. A user's program is described to the system using a high level of abstraction. This speeds up program development and facilitates the modifying of program parameters such as "problem size". The system provides intelligent choices as the user's program is bound to the hardware. The binding may be controlled to any extent desired by the user. This allows the hardware to be used efficiently, while relieving the user from having to know intimate details of the underlying hardware architecture. === Science, Faculty of === Computer Science, Department of === Graduate
