The batholiths studied were the Guichon Creek, Hogem and Iron Mask batholiths located in the central, interior of British Columbia and within the Canadian Western Cordillera. Despite their gross geological differences, these batholiths have a remarkably similar three dimensional shape. After correlating gross shape with existing theories of batholith emplacement, a new theory for the emplacement of these batholiths has been proposed. This 'tectonic injection' theory is intended to apply to all batholiths that fall within the class of "funnel-type". As a corollary, ideas are also presented on the significance of the spatial correlation of mineral occurrances with gross shape.
