Despite their gross geological differences, these batholiths have a remarkably similar three dimensional shape. After correlating gross shape with existing theories of batholith emplacement, a new theory for the emplacement of these batholiths has been proposed. This 'tectonic injection' theory is intended to apply to all batholiths that fall within the class of "funnel-type". As a corollary, ideas are also presented on the significance of the spatial correlation of mineral occurrances with gross shape.
