However, instead of focusing on the phasic adoption by different user types, this research emphasizes on the importance of engaging strategic partners to break through and realize innovation diffusion. In addition, this research emphasizes on the technogy adoption of business-to-business (B2B) users instead of common user in traditional innovation diffusion theories. This research focused on the early adoption stage of Taiwan Pay to find out the challenges that Taiwan Pay had experienced during the implementation of mobile payment and their solutions. We have found out that Taiwan Pay is still in the early adopter stage of the innovative diffusion theory, and the early B2B adopters help Taiwan Pay to build domestic mobile payment standards, and also help to improve the technology, service and management of Taiwan Pay to enable them to advance to the next phase of innovation diffusion. This research has the following contributions to the theory of innovation diffusion. First of all, we suggests that the engagement of strategic partners are critical for the innovation diffusion process. Secondly, there are several milestones that should be achieved during the innovation diffusion process, and need the help of different types of strategic partners. Thirdly, the interactions between innovators and strategic partners helps them to gain industrial insights and develop core competencies. Practically, this study suggests enterprises to find out their strengthes and weaknesses based on unsatisfied user needs, and then engage strategic partners to break theough and realize innovation diffusion.
