If the ambient air quality is not good, inhaling massive contaminants could cause a higher risk for human health. In this study, the PM2.5, black carbon (BC), VOCs, and particle number concentrations were measured at different locations inside and outside the Xinzhuang sports park to recognize the difference of the air quality in different seasons and periods. Therefore, the citizen can find out the levels of the air quality in different seasons and periods at the Xinzhuang sports park by this research work. And a suitable outdoor sports time period can be suggested for the citizen based on this study results. The measurement results showed that the average PM2.5, BC, and particle number concentrations were the highest at the outside park in the winter evening and were 19.6 μg/m3, 2.83 μg/m3, and 2.9×104 particles/cm3, respectively. In the summer morning, the average PM2.5, BC, and particle number concentrations inside the park were the lowest and were 11.6 μg/m3, 1.08 μg/m3, and 1.0×104 particles/cm3, respectively. Measurement results showed that the particle mass size distributions at Xinzhuang sports park exhibited a bi-mode pattern. The dominant mode was at approximately 0.300.43 µm, and the minor mode was at approximately 2.192.98 µm. The source of coarse particles inside and outside the Xinzhuang sports park may be caused by the dust resuspended from people's walking, vehicle driving, and environmental cleaning activities, while fine particles may come from vehicle exhaust. In the summer season, the highest average VOCs concentration was observed at the outside park in the evening period and the lowest average VOCs concentration could be recorded at the inside park in the morning period. And the average BTEX concentrations were 64.73 µg/m3 and 32.86 µg/m3, respectively, at these two periods. In this study, an inhalation exposure model was adopted to evaluate the exposure risk in exercise. Whether in the summer or winter season, the inhalation exposure of air pollutants during the morning period is lower than that during the evening period inside the Xinzhuang sports park, and the highest inhalation exposure of air pollutants was observed at the outside of the park in the evening period. Therefore, the morning period is a better outdoor sports time for the citizen due to the lower exposure risk comparing to other time periods. Additionally, it was advised for the citizen to avoid exercise at the outside of the park where adjacent to traffic sources, because it could rise a higher exposure risk.
